Sports Med and Eighth Grade Tours
I am about 3 and a half weeks in to my Sports Med class and we've already done so much. One of the first big skills we learned was ankle taping. I had a ton of fun learning this skill. Though it seems like such an easy task to put tape on an ankle, it's actually so much more than that. There's a specific way that the tape goes on so that no blistering is allowed and so that the ankle is fully stabilized.
On top of that we also got our certification for Stop the Bleed. This class was all about how to stop excessive bleeding, in life or death situations. We listened to an amazing presentation on when and how to stop excessive bleeding, and we also did a challenge activity in which there were two groups competing to pack the wound the fastest. It was a really fun day overall, and it's amazing that we now have a certificate for that as well as CPR and other certification.
The last thing I did specifically was give 8th grade tours. I honestly was extremely scared to do this at first because I am not a big public speaker, but I am really proud of how it went for both Juliette and I. We presented on how Foundations of Medicine was last semester and what was involved for a class like last semester. I went on the mic and spoke to about 200 eighth graders, and for someone who hates public speaking, that's pretty cool. I hope that this experience will help me for my end of year CAPSTONE presentation.
